Parent Visitation
Our policy is open door for parents. We encourage you to observe your child’s daily routine and hope that you to get to know your child’s teachers and our staff.
Enrollment
Andromeda Pre-School is an equal opportunity provider of child care services. Applications for enrollment are accepted without regard to race, religion, sex or national origin. We serve children two years of age through twelve years of age.
Sign in and Out
Children must be signed in and out by parents, or a person specifically authorized by parents, and whose name is listed on your child’s enrollment form. Anyone picking up your child must show proper identification, such as a driver’s license.
Closing
We charge an additional fee for children left at Andromeda Pre-School after 6:01 P.M. Please call Andromeda Pre-School if you believe you are going to be late. Our staff have families and responsibilities after closing. Payment will be in CASH ONLY and is required at pick-up.
Health & Safety
Emergencies
If a fire, severe weather, or other emergency occurs, it is important that children react in a safe and orderly fashion. Fire drills are held monthly at Andromeda. Should an emergency occur, we will notify you.
Suspected Child Abuse
Andromeda employees are mandated by the state licensing regulations to report any and all suspected child abuse or neglect.
Illness
A sick child must not come to school if one or more of the following conditions exist:
- The illness prevents the child from participating comfortably in facility activities.
- The illness results in a greater need for care than the staff can provide without compromising the health, safety and supervision of the other children.
- The child has any of the following:
- Oral temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater; armpit temperature of 99.4 degrees or greater; accompanied by behavior changes or other signs or symptoms of illness.
- Symptoms and signs of possible severe illness (such as lethargy, constant cough, uncontrolled breathing, uncontrolled diarrhea, vomiting, rash with fever, mouth sores with drooling, wheezing, behavior change, or symptoms of a communicable disease like measles or chickenpox).
- The child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease until medical evaluation indicates that the child can be included in the facilities activities.
Sick, feverish children will not be permitted to attend Andromeda Pre-School. Children must be fever free for at least 48 hours before they may return to daycare. Children who require special care due to illness should not attend.
Children who develop a fever or become ill while attending Andromeda Pre-School will be isolated and the parent will be called to pick their child up immediately. It is a good habit to always ask your physician for a note stating your child’s illness, what medications he/she needs to take and when your child may return to school.
Medicine
All prescription medicine must be in the original prescription bottle. Over the counter medicines will be dispensed according to the label only, unless a written doctor’s note is provided.
No child will be given medicine unless a medication form is filled out each week the medicine is to be dispensed.
Please hand the medicine to your child’s teacher. DO NOT leave any medication in your child’s bag or backpack.
Allergies
If your child has any allergies, you must notify your child’s teacher and the Director in writing of what he/she is allergic to and what the proper precautions and remedies are so we may take the correct precautions. Please indicate any allergies on the enrollment form.
Injuries
Childhood accidents are a normal part of growth and development as children begin to test their movements and limitations. We do our best to prevent these accidents, but in event that there is an unforeseen problem, we will handle that situation to the best of our training and we will contact you if warranted for a major accident. It is very important to keep your phone numbers current. We will also provide you with an incident report. The report for any accident that occurs will need to be signed and returned to Andromeda Pre-School.
Outdoor
Outdoor experiences should be provided for all young children (through age twelve) on a daily basis. Their physical development is occurring rapidly and young people should go outside daily to practice large motor skills, learn about outdoor environment and experience freedom not always possible indoors. Outdoor time is an integral part of the curriculum.
Procedures for implementation of the Outdoor Policy is as follows:
- All children will go outdoors for at least 30 minutes, weather permitting.
- Parents will be informed that all children will be going out each day. Children not well enough to go outdoors are probably not well enough to be in school.
- Plans will be made to provide jackets, sweaters, etc. if needed.
- Circumstances which might preclude daily outdoor play are:
- Chill factor, heat index.
- Steady rain or downpour, thunder and lightening, during tornado watches, tornado warnings, and hurricane watches.
Potty Training
Children are accepted at age 2 if they are not fully potty trained ONLY under the following guidelines:
- You must be working on training at home, with some success.
- When starting out, pull-ups must be used.
- Your child must be able to verbalize the need to use the bathroom, “I have to go potty,” before they may wear underwear.
- We will take your child to the bathroom at regular intervals, but
- Potty training must be successful, with no accidents, for at least one full week, at home, and at daycare, before underwear may be worn.
- If regression or a power struggle occurs, your child will be back in pull-ups and the process will begin again.
- Non-potty trained children over the age of two will be charged the two year old rate.
Soiled Clothing
The Center for Disease Control of the United States Public Health Service requires that clothing soiled with bodily fluids (stool, urine, vomit, blood) be placed, un-rinsed, in a sealed plastic bag, labeled with the child’s name to be picked up by the parent or guardian at the end of the day by the front door outside.
If your child soils their clothing badly, the staff will clean them to the best of their ability. However, you will be called to give them a thorough cleaning.
